Mark Rowswell is a Canadian who is very popular in China. Known as Dashan, he started to learn Chinese in 1984 and first became known to China’s television audiences with his performance in the 1988 CCTV Spring Festival Gala. He has subsequently appeared in leading roles in many TV drama series, and is recognized as an outstanding crosstalk performer. In this crosstalk, he is accompanied by students from Confucius Institutes around the world, including the US, Russia, Australia and Kenya. There are now more than 300 Confucius Institutes worldwide, which enrolled 360,000 students last year alone. In this sketch the students introduce themselves through tongue twisters, poems and songs in Chinese.
