German Defence Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg is dismissing accusations that he passed others' work off as his own, in his doctoral dissertation.

His spokesman says the plagiarism accusations are absurd, and is ready to evaluate whether some of the footnotes contained in the work might be worth improving.

Wednesday, a German daily reported Guttenberg lifted pages of his law dissertation without correctly attributing them in a footnote or bibliography.

Others have come forward to point out other questionable passages. He is being accused of failing to correctly cite material from the US embassy's website in his work.

Guttenberg wrote his dissertation in 2006 it was published under the title, "Constitution and Constitutional Treaty: Constitutional developments in the USA and EU".
