Turning to other floods now, this time in Indonesia. Heavy rain there has triggered floods to sweep Papau province in the central part of the country.

Local media reports that at least 13 people were killed, dozens were injured and many others remained missing.

Rising waters broke the banks of the Paniai Lake, causing a deluge to rush into residential areas and sweep away dozens of houses. Some residents were evacuated by boat, while thousands more took refuge in schools and public buildings.

Indonesia has struggled to curb widespread illegal logging of its forests, which exacerbates damage caused by flooding.
