IOC praises London Olympics plan

04-02-2011 18:55 BJT

London has received a glowing report from the International Olympic Committee after their visit 16 months ahead of the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games.

Denis Oswald, Chairman of IOC Coordination Commission said "Venues have been planned with legacy in mind, and I would like to express my surprise that sometimes in the British newspapers there are some doubts expressed about the legacy spirit of these games, and for me looking back to previous experiences I think its really an example of excellent legacy, things have been planned with the idea of the future, with the idea of not leaving white elephants."

It has been the IOC Chairman's eighth inspection visit to London. He congratulated organizers at a news conference for addressing and resolving all issues raised during his last trip. The commission has visited the main venues in the Olympic Park in East London and toured the adjacent athlete's village. A large area of East London has been revitalized and rebuilt, and venues will either be scaled down or given to new tenants to avoid under-use.
