Migrants rescued off Italy's coast

The Italian Coast Guard has saved 48 out of 300 migrants from a boat that capsized off the coast of Lampedusa, a tiny Italian island, close to North Africa. One of the survivors said the boat, left Tripoli with 317 people on board, including about 7 children.

Rescuers, offered survivors, blankets, warm beverages and food, as they arrived onhore Wednesday morning. Many were suffering from hypothermia and were taken away by ambulance. On Monday, the UN refugee agency said more than 400 people fleeing Libya on two boats were missing. The incident provided a stark illustration of the dangers that face desperate trying to flee from north Africa for better life in Europe.
