US police officers from New York, have joined the Japanese search teams in locating bodies in Ofunato, a fishing town in Iwate Prefecture and one of the worst-hit areas.

US Forces, have deployed 18-thousand personnel for search and rescue missions. They're also moving relief goods to the affected area. Although the main search for bodies ended last week, and was probably the final hope for retrieving the dead, limited operations such as this may continue.

Ofunato was pulverized by the blast of seawater, triggered by the massive 9.0-magnitude earthquake. As many as 25-thousand people were killed and are missing by the tsunami, which also destroyed hundreds of miles of coastline.
