A parade has been held in Havana's Revolution Square to mark the 50th anniversary of the Bay of Pigs Victory, and of the declaration of the Socialist Cuban Revolution.

Cuban state media described the event as one giving youth the spotlight.

The parade began with youngsters and veterans marching side-by-side, and it closed with tens of thousands of young people , reaffirming their commitment to the revolution led by Fidel Castro.

The parade coincides with the 6th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba, which is being held this weekend. It's the first congress since 1997.
