World Economic Forum opens in Rio de Janeiro

Hundreds of business and political leaders from all over the world have gathered in Rio de Janeiro for the World Economic Forum on Latin America. The theme for this year's event is "Laying the Foundation for a Latin American Decade".

Participants emphasized the importance of seeing significant economic growth in the region before 2020. Regional partnerships for development and equitable growth are among the key topics to be discussed. Nearly 30 sessions on several topics will take place during the afternoons. Among the issues topping the agenda are food production, education, energy, infrastructure, and trade.
