Yemeni security forces killed at least 14 protesters and hundreds of others were wounded on Wednesday as mass rallies demanding the ouster of President Ali Abdullah Saleh paralyzed two major cities.

At least 14 protester were killed and more than two hundreds were wounded when Yemeni security forces opened fire on protesters marching toward the cabinet building in the capital Sanaa.

Ambulances and private cars rushed the wounded from the scene to hospitals and the march stopped as protesters helped treat and evacuate the injured. Others received treatment from medical staff at a field hospital.

Protester Sanaa said, "So many people were hit by bullets. So many people were killed. So many people were killed. This regime doesn't know any mercy. I call on a revolution that destroys this regime."

In the southern Yemeni city of Taiz, three protesters were killed and four were wounded when security forces opened fire on a rally, and demonstrators took over a building belonging to the Oil Ministry. Protesters have effectively brought the daily scenes of Yemen's main industrial center to a halt.

In Aden, another southern city, demonstrators also set fire to tires in the streets as the city was paralyzed by a civil disobedience called for by the opposition. Similar demonstrations took place in several other cities.
