Greece's main opposition party leaders have refused for a second time to back Prime Minister George (Yawr-yoos) Papandreou 's austerity program. But the Prime Minister says he will continue the battle to resolve Greece's debt crisis despite the setback.

Friday's meeting was his second attempt this week to bring opposition parties on board with the new austerity measures agreed with the EU and IMF. EU policymakers warned Athens it must have broad political backing for debt-cutting measures if they are to receive extra cash to plug a funding gap next year.

Papandreou says that he was still open to further talks, despite the rejection. The Left and Communist party leaders also refused to give their support. Only the right wing nationalist (LAOS) party leader expressed a willingness to cooperate with the ruling party.
