US President, Barack Obama, has arrived back in Washington after a week-long tour that took him to Ireland, Britain, France and Poland. Before his departure, he held talks with Poland's Prime Minister, Donald Tusk on security and economic issues.

President Obama praised Poland as a key US ally whose democracy and economic prosperity can serve as a model for other countries in transition.

Barack Obama, US President, said, "Poland is one of our strongest and closest allies in the world and as a leader in Europe. And I believe that Poland's story demonstrates how a proud and determined and enthusiastic people can overcome extraordinary challenges and build a democracy that represents the great strength and character of this nation, while now serving as an example for Europe and the world."

Obama also defended his new relationship with Russia, a policy that has sometimes unnerved Poles. But, Obama says the US will dispatch a US Air Force unit of F-16 fighters and transport aircraft to Poland. In the economic sphere, shale gas exploration and nuclear energy have gained key importance in Polish-American relations.

Poland is interested in taking advantage of American experience and know-how in the extraction of shale gas. Obama also met Polish President, Bronislaw Komorowski, to discuss missile defense, energy security, as well as visa issues between the two NATO allies.
