The space shuttle Endeavour, has left the International Space Station, clearing the way for the final flight to the outpost before NASA retires its three-ship fleet.

During its 12 days at the station, the crew accomplished four spacewalks to complete construction of the US part of the station. Endeavour is due back at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida early Wednesday. The shuttles are being retired to save the four billion US dollar annual operating expenses so NASA can develop new vehicles.

One final shuttle mission is planned before the United States ends the 30-year-old program. Atlantis is due to launch July 8th with a year's worth of supplies for the station.
