US President, Barack Obama, has nominated seasoned businessman, John Bryson, as the next Secretary of Commerce. It is the latest effort aimed at improving US trade competitiveness and speeding-up exports and job creation.

If approved by the Senate, Bryson will replace outgoing Gary Locke, who is preparing to take up his new post as US ambassador to China. Obama said that Bryson would continue the department's mission to enhance US competitiveness, strengthen the nations' international economic position and facilitate global trade by opening up new markets for US goods and services.
