Chinese vice president calls for further development of China-EU ties

Visiting Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping on Friday called for further development of the China-EU strategic partnership during his talks with Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini in Rome.

Xi Jinping said cooperation and dialogue are the main stream of the relationship between China and the European Union. The Vice President expressed his hope that Italy would continue to play a positive role in this regard.

He also spoke highly of bilateral ties between China and Italy. Frattini said that Italy hopes to strengthen cooperation with China in various fields.

Xi Jinping also met with the National Secretary of Italy's Democratic Party, Pier Luigi Bersani. The vice President is on an official visit as the guest of Italian President Giorgio Napolitano.
