Abhisit Resigns as party leader

Thailand's Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has announced his resignation as leader of the ruling Democratic party,after results show his party has lost to the opposition Thai Pheu Party,led by the sister of ousted Prime Minister, Thaksin Shinawatra.

The Democrats scored 160 seats in the 500-seat parliament,compared with Thai Pheu's 265. Abhisit says his party will hold a general meeting within 90 days to choose a successor.

Abhisit Vejjajiv, Thai Prime Minister, said, "As I am leader who led the Democrat party in this election, and the result was that we got less seats of elected members of parliament in this election, compared to the previous one, as I am leader of a well organized party, I have to take responsibility. So, today I have decided to resign from the party leadership."
