Gaddafi rejects West's recognition of rebels

07-16-2011 08:16 BJT

Muammar Gaddafi says the Libyan people reject the Contact Group's recognition of the NTC as the country's sole authority.

In an audio speech broadcast on Libyan State TV, Gaddafi aimed to reassure thousands of supporters, who gathered to hear the address in the town of Zlitan.

He called on the nation's people to ignore international recognition of the opposition, saying such proclamations are worthless.

Muammar Gaddafi said, "Even Muammar Gaddafi, who led the revolution and brought historical gains as well as dignity and pride to Libya, can't represent the Libyan people, and do anything on their behalf. So those traitors who come by parachutes, do not representing anyone. You [NATO] idiots, what are you doing? None of you represent the Libyan people. Recognize them a million times if you want. We don't care. Trample on this recognition. Trample on it under the feet of people in Zlitan."
