The United Nations Security Council has failed to agree on a response to the deadly violence in Syria.

After discussions ended on Tuesday, Russia's Ambassador to the UN told journalists that an agreement had not been possible so far. The body will continue to discuss the matter on Wednesday.

Vitaly Churkin, Russian ambassador to UN, said, "Our view is shared by a number of members of the Security Council that the required balanced has not been achieved in the course of those discussions and in the current shape and form of the text, it may not play a constructive and positive role which we would like to see the Security Council to play in trying to prevent the further aggravation of the crisis in Syria."
