UN Security Council condemns Syria

The UN Security Council Wednesday adopted a presidential statement on Syria, condemning Syrian authorities' use of force against civilians and called on all parties to stop the violence.

The 15 members of the Council condemned "widespread violations of human rights and the use of force against civilians by the Syrian authorities". The Council also called for "an immediate end to all violence and urged all sides to act with utmost restraint, and to refrain from reprisals, including attacks on state institutions". Syria's neighbor Lebanon, disassociated itself from the statement agreed by the other 14 members of the Council.
