China announces 90-million-yuan worth of aid to Africa

Chinese ambassador to Ethiopia Gu Xiaojie says China has always been committed to further enhancing relations with Ethiopia, and Africa in general. Gu made the comments during a press conference held on Tuesday at the Chinese Embassy in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.

He announced that the Chinese government has decided to provide humanitarian assistance to drought affected areas in the Horn of Africa. 90-million-yuan in aid will be provided to Ethiopia, Kenya and Djibouti. The ambassador added that the Chinese people and government are deeply concerned over the difficult situation caused by the drought. The Chinese government is currently holding consultations with concerned parties to provide humanitarian assistance to Somalia.
