China launches maritime satellite

China successfully launched a maritime satellite at the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center Tuesday morning.

The maritime satellite called Haiyang-2, was carried by a Long-March-4B carrier rocket. It is China's first ocean dynamic environmental monitoring satellite.

The mission of this satellite is supervision and surveying of the maritime environment. The satellite will play an important role in prevention and reduction of maritime disasters. It will also provide more information for ocean science, maritime environment forecasting and global climate change research.

This is the 144th flight of the Long-March series carrier rocket.
