The lingering drought is expected to continue in China's southern provinces over the next three days. More than 30 counties and cities in Guizhou Province are suffering from severe drought.

The orange drought alert, the second-highest level, issued by the provincial meteorological station still stands as temperatures in some places could reach as high as 35 to 37 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, in Chongqing Municipality, 26 counties have been hit by drought.

Nearly 150,000 hectares of farmland have been affected and more than 600-thousand people are short of drinking water.

Drought and high temperatures are also forecast to continue in most southern regions, particularly Yunnan, Hunan and Jiangxi provinces, over the next few days.
