Tensions are growing in Libya as rebel fighters close in on the capital from the west and the south.

On Wenesday, rebel fighters came closer to seizing the strategic western city of Zawiya. A rebel victory in the city could be a turning point in the six-month war and leave Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi practically cornered in Tripoli.

The capital's residents are trying to continue life as normal, but people are complaining of shortages of goods and fuel. On Wednesday night, large numbers of people gathered in the city's central square for a regular demonstration in support of Gaddafi.

Abdul Walood Al-Wali, bakery owner, said, "The conditions we are in now, we are encountering an air blockade and they are closing all the exits of the country for us, the stock that we have will run out, we are running out of everything."
