South Korean civilians and officials from the military, police and government have participated in the civil defense drill taking place in Seoul.

Thursday's drill is part of the annual joint South Korea-US Ulchi Freedom Guardian Exercise. As the sirens sounded, people were instructed to leave the streets and evacuate to the nearest shelters.

The exercise, which is taking place from August the 16th to the 26th, is aimed at improving readiness against any kind of provocation from the DPRK and others threatening South Korea's security. The DPRK describes the training as extremely provocative.
