Gaddafi has made a plea to those still loyal to him to defend the capital. Libyan state television aired an audio message from Gaddafi on Sunday night, his third in 24-hours. He sounded angry and urged families in Tripoli to arm themselves and fight for the capital.

Gaddafi said, "The traitors are preparing for the occupation forces' (NATO) deployment in Tripoli, the occupation of Libya, this is what it means. I tell you, you have to march to Tripoli to protect it and to purify it from the traitors in the streets. In Tajoura, where they are in the darkness, they speak to their masters and ask the occupiers to come to Tripoli to occupy it. How come you allow the capital to be under occupation once again, after the revolution and after the freedom? Why do the armed people, allow the mercenaries, the rats, the traitors to pave the way for occupation, in the city of Tripoli? This is rejected. This is dangerous. If Tripoli is set on fire and becomes like Baghdad; why? Stand up and rise up for Tripoli! You are its protectors! There is no place for the agents of the occupation in Tripoli or Libya, in front of the people marching. Where is the escape you agents? Return to your home. NATO will not protect you from the anger of the people. Imams of the Mosques get out and lead the people! Get out and support the people - women who are trained to use weapons."
