Arab League holds meeting on Libya and Syria

On Saturday the Arab League held an extraordinary meeting to discuss the situations in Libya and Syria. It was the first official meeting for the new Libyan delegation representing the National Transitional Council after Libya's Arab League membership was frozen 6 months ago.

It is now official. The new Libyan Flag stand among its fellow nations in the Main hall of the Arab League. This came in the Foreign Ministers' extraordinary meeting on Saturday discussing the tensed situation in both Libya and Syria.

Mahmoud Jibril, Chairman of NTC Executive Board, said, "I stand before you with respect and gratitude, for your brave position. It is the first step that protected the Libyan people from a massacre that would have been a shameful act in modern Arab history"

JIbril urged the Arab League to send 1.5 billion dollars aid promised, so that the NTC can provide the needs of the country. In addition Qatar promised 2.5 billion dollars in Aid before Wednesday.

While the Arab leaders were in a closed session hundreds of Syrians and Yemenis stood outside the Arab league protesting against their current regimes.

He said, “The events that we witnessed proved the nonnecessity of using violence against a peaceful political movement. We have to respond to these demands with fast reform. This is the only way for our community's stability and protecting it from foreign interference."

As for the Syrian situation, the Arab League decided to form a ministerial committee that will visit President Bashar Al Asad. Qatar, Tunisia, Jordon, Oman and the Secretary General of the Arab League will be part of this committee.

Syrian Foreign minister, Al Moalem, didn't attend the meeting, while the Syrian ambassador to Cairo and the Arab League refused what he called an interference in Syria's national matters.

CCTV correspondent Adel EL Mahrouky said, "Six months ago the Arab league froze Libya's membership, after Qaddafi used his army to attack the rebels. Today while Syrian President Bashar Al Asad is doing the same, the Arab League condemned the action but will refer to negotiations First. "
