The president of the European Commission has said that the growing threat to the euro is an issue all European Union countries need to deal with.

Addressing the EU parliament in Strasbourg on the Eurozone's financial crisis, Jose Manuel Barroso said the Commission would soon present options for the introduction of euro bonds. Barroso believes these could be implemented within the terms of the current European treaty.

European shares turned positive shortly after the EU Commission President addressed the parliament. The FTS Eurofirst 300 index of top European shares was up 0.2 percent after falling earlier in the session. Banks also gained ground on hopes that the introduction of euro bonds could help the euro zone in coming out of the debt crisis.
