BAGHDAD, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Two successive roadside bombs rattled western Baghdad late on Monday, killing 13 people and wounding 22 others, an Interior Ministry source said.

The first bomb ripped off in Washash district of Baghdad while the second one ensued minutes later when security forces rushed to the scene. The two explosions killed 13 people and wounded 22 others, among whom nine were policemen and soldiers, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. It's a tactic often used by insurgents to cause a second explosion in a bid to drive up the death toll.

Violence in Iraq has ebbed from its climax in 2006 and 2007 when sectarian conflicts pushed the country to the brink of civil war, but deadly shootings and bombings still occur on daily basis.
