An explosion in southwest China's Guizhou Province has killed seven people and injured more than 200.

Two cargo trucks loaded with about 70 tons of explosives exploded Tuesday in front of a vehicle testing station in Fuquan city, near the provincial capital Guiyang.

The testing station was destroyed and nearby houses were severely damaged. A neighbouring five-story residential building was damaged as well.

Police and rescue workers arrived soon afterwards. The 264 wounded were rushed to nearby hospitals. 25 are in a critical condition.

The local education department has suspended classes of six schools around the blast site. Search and rescue operations are under way.

The cause of the explosion remains unknown.
