Chinese Premier in Russia for SCO meeting

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao meets the prime ministers of Pakistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan respectively today in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

During the meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Yusuf Raza Gilani, the two leaders vowed to promote bilateral cooperation in various fields. Top of his agenda is to attend a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization tonight. And a joint declaration is expected from the all six SCO members.

respectively today in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

The SCO comprises six members: China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. The heads of government are meeting to discuss economic and security issues, as well as the organisation’s plans for the next decade. The SCO, was founded in Shanghai in June 2001. So far, more than 30 economic deals have been signed within the SCO framework. The Chinese Vice-Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping told reporters the leaders will discuss energy and infrastructure construction in central Asia before issuing a joint declaration on the groups’ economic situation. Over the past decade, the organization has focused on the economy, security and cultural exchanges.
