Taylor Pearl necklace sets record price

The world record price for pearl jewelry has been broken at a Christie’s auction house in New York City. The necklace lists kings, queens and actress Elizabeth Taylor as its former owners.

On the block were some of Elizabeth Taylor’s vast collection of jewelry. Tthe piece known as "La Peregrina," a 16th Century pearl, ruby and diamond necklace sold for 10 and a half million US dollars. The necklace was initially purchased at auction for 37,000 US dollars in 1969. The price surpassed the auction record for a pearl item, set in 2007 at Christie’s New York, with the sale of The Baroda Pearls for 7 million US dollars.
