People in Taiwan allowed to run businesses in mainland

The State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office says people in Taiwan will be allowed to open individual businesses in nine mainland cities and provinces from next month. They will also be given more favorable policies including not having to pay tax on goods imported from Taiwan.

Spokesperson Yang Yi says Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong and six other cities and provinces will be the first to oepn up. Businesses they can open, which the mainland hopes will provide more job opportunities, include catering and retail.

From January 1st, the listed goods from Taiwan will continue to enjoy tax free status for a second year.

This is the most extensive policy the mainland has offered to Taiwan since the mainland started importing Taiwan goods.
