16 killed in highway accident in SW China

At least 16 people have been killed and 40 others injured after a tourist bus fell from a highway bridge in Guiding County of southwest China's Guizhou Province.

The 53-seat tourist bus was carrying 56 people while driving from Yiwu in east China's Zhejiang Province to Luzhou in southwestern Sichuan Province. It fell off the bridge and plunged into a 10-meter-deep crevice Wednesday afternoon.

The bus was travelling on an icy section of the Lanzhou-Haikou expressway. Injured passengers were rushed to a local hospital.

An investigation is underway.
