France has suspended training operations for Afghan troops after four French troops were shot dead by an Afghan soldier. France has also threatened to pull its entire force from the country.

It has almost 4-thousand troops in Afghanistan as part of the 130-thousand NATO-led force there. The attack brings the total number of French soldiers killed during the Afghan campaign to 82.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy said: "If the conditions of security for our soldiers, as well as the conditions of the recruitment of Afghan soldiers within the Afghan army are not clearly clarified and secured, France will consider pulling out. We are friends of the Afghan people and we are allies of the Afghan people but we cannot accept that Afghan soldiers fire at French troops. If the conditions of security are not clearly restored, then the question of an early withdrawal of the French army will arise."
