Red Cross and Red Crescent teams have begun distributing humanitarian aid near the Syrian city of Homs.

An International Committee of the Red Cross spokesman says assistance includes food, blankets and hygiene kits. Red Crescent volunteers are also providing first aid care.

The ICRC spokesman says they also hope to enter the shattered Baba Amro district on Sunday. He says the ICRC received the "green light" to enter Homs from Syrian authorities on Friday, but was delayed by what Syrian forces on the ground said were security concerns.

Meanwhile, the UN refugee agency says up to 2-thousand Syrians have fled to Lebanon to avoid violence.

In another development, Syrian media reports that a large amount of Western-made weapons have been found in the suburb of Damascus. The report says armed rebels are using weapons provided by some Western and Arab countries to attack government forces.
