A Guatemalan court has sentenced a former Special Forces soldier to 6,060 years in prison for participating in a massacre in 1982 that claimed 201 lives.

55-year-old Pedro Pimentel was deported from the US last year to face charges of murder and crimes against humanity.

He’s the fifth soldier to be sentenced for his role in the "Las Dos Erres" massacre, which occurred during the country’s civil war. Pimentel has denied being present at the massacre, despite being named by other soldiers.

Nearly a quarter of a million people are estimated to have died during Guatemala’s internal conflict that ran from 1960 to 1996.
