The Euro Disney resort near the French capital is preparing to celebrate its 20th anniversary. It took years of negotiation followed by five years of construction work to turn 20,000 sqare meters of farmland east of Paris into the old world's magic kingdom.

And when the park finally opened on April 12, 1992, it wasn't an immediate success. The company suffered massive losses for years, but gradually the formula began to be effective.

More attractions were added, and a second theme park opened in 2002. Disneyland Paris today boasts 57 rides, 62 shops, 5,800 hotel rooms and even its own international rail terminal.

The park has chalked up 250 million visits over its two decades, and 15.7 million last year alone.

Today Disneyland Paris is Europe's top tourist destination, even ahead of the Louvre and the Eiffel tower. And Disney doesn't want to stop there, a third French theme park is already on the horizon.
