China dispatches 6 UN observers to Syria to monitor ceasefire

Six Chinese UN military observers have left Beijing for Syria to monitor ceasefire there. The move brings the number of Chinese military observers in Syria to nine.

China’s Ministry of National Defense says the six military officers selected have good professional, foreign language and driving skills.

Six Chinese military observers have flown from Beijing, to
join the UN monitoring mission in Syria.

They all participated in previous UN peacekeeping missions and received intensive training in anti-terrorism, anti-abduction, and explosive identification.

China says as of April, 2012, 83 Chinese UN military observers were carrying out peacekeeping missions in 11 areas.

Liu Yong, military observer to Syria, said, "We’ll work under the UN resolutions, and urge all involved to raise safety awareness, and ensure personal safety."
