APEC trade ministers sign joint statement to support multi-lateral trade mechanism

The 2-day APEC ministers responsible for trade meeting has concluded in Kazan, Russia. 21 trade ministers from APEC member economies signed a joint agreement aimed at supporting a multi-lateral trade mechanism and anti-protectionism.

The last day of the meeting focused on policies concerning environment protection. In a news conference after the meeting, Russia’s Minister of Economic Development Andrey Belousov disclosed the content of the joint statement. In the statement, countries expressed willingness to build an Asia-Pacific free trade region under the framework of APEC. They expressed hope the Asia-Pacific region can play a leading role in terms of technology and innovation in the coming decades.

The trade ministers say the two-day meeting in Kazan laid solid foundation for the upcoming 2012 APEC Leaders’ Informal Meeting ,which is set to be held in Russia’s Eastern city of Vladivostok in September .
