27 Taliban insurgents have been killed in an operation carried out by the Afghan forces and NATO-led coalition troops in the eastern Afghan province of Logar, according to a local government official.

The official also says several foreign armed forces, affiliated with the Taliban, were among the dead. The NATO-led coalition has confirmed that several insurgents were killed in Logar province, some 60 kilometers south of the capital, Kabul. During the operation, insurgents attacked Afghan and coalition troops with small-arms fire and a grenade.

The security forces returned fire and requested a precision air strike. However, the Taliban insurgent group has yet to comment. It earlier announced the launch of a spring offensive from May 3 against Afghan and NATO forces.
