China welcomes Afghanistan as SCO observer

Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Liu Weimin says the SCO should play a bigger role in Afghanistan’s peaceful reconstruction.

Liu Weimin, Spokesman of Chinese Foreign Ministry, said, "Afghanistan borders other SCO members. The country’s development will be closely linked to security and stability in the region. The fact that Afghanistan has become an observer member of the SCO will speed up security and economic cooperation. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization has a wealth of experience in counter-terrorism, combating transnational crime, drug control and the promotion of economic development. We welcome strengthened cooperation with Afghanistan.
