Defence Secretary level talks between Pakistan and India held in the city of Rawalpindi near the Pakistani capital, have ended.

At the top of the agenda was the decades' old military stand-off on the Siachin glacier, known as the world’s highest battleground. Talks ended without any concrete movement forward. But both sides promised to make serious and sustained efforts to seek a future resolution.

Between 10 thousand and 20 thousand troops are stationed in the mountains above the glacier and have fought in temperatures of minus sixty degrees. Thousands from both sides have lost their lives in Siachin, mostly victims of the climate and avalanche-prone terrain. The next round of talks on Siachen will be held in New Delhi. The dates are yet to be confirmed.
