Iran’s top nuclear negotiator says that upcoming international talks over the country’s controversial nuclear program, will be successful only if the West adopts an approach based on cooperation.

Saeed Jalili made the remarks at the Iranian parliament in Tehran on Wednesday. The two days of talks between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany are scheduled to begin next Monday in Moscow.

Saeed Jalili, Iran’S Chief Nuclear Negotiator, said, "If they want to experience success along this path of dialogue, it’s necessary for them to adopt an approach based on dialogue and cooperation. It’s not possible to adopt a hostile policy towards the Iranian nation and have talks at the same time."

The six negotiating powers have demanded Iran halt its 20 percent enrichment programme as it is just steps away from being upgraded to weapons-grade material. They’ve also asked Iran to close down its underground Fordo nuclear site south of Tehran.

In exchange, civilian plane spare parts and nuclear fuel will be offered. Iran insists that world powers must recognize its right to enrich uranium and have called for Western oil and banking sanctions to be lifted in exchange for concessions, but it has declared that it will not stop enriching uranium and will keep it at 3.5 to 5 percent.
