Talim weakens to tropical depression

The fifth tropical storm this year to hit China has weakened to a tropical depression after it moved into the East China Sea.

Talim will continue to affect some areas in eastern and southern China. Heavy rainfalls are expected in Zhejiang, Fujian and Guangdong provinces in the coming days.

The tropical storm has already damaged more than 6 square kilometers of croplands in east China since Tuesday.

Flood waters in some cities have reached 50 centimeters deep. Talim has also affected Taiwan, causing agricultural losses of more than 3 million US dollars, and damaging some 10 schools.
