Royal Dutch Airlines has completed its first flight fuelled by biofuel, made from used cooking oil.

The Plane took off from Amsterdam Schiphol airport on Tuesday afternoon. It carried the countrys junior environment minister Joop Atsma to the climate change summit in Rio.

The Dutch Airline began test flights using biofuels in 2009. The biokerosene used for testing had the same technical specifications as traditional kerosene and did not require any adjustments to the aircraft engines.
