The 2-day APEC Energy Ministerial Meeting opens in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The Summit's topic is Energy Security: New Challenges and Possible Strategic Solutions.

The meeting focuses on energy security, energy efficiency and the development of gas and nuclear industries. Energy officials from 21 APEC members are attending the meeting. The participants aim to adopt a joint declaration on APEC's proposals for the use of natural gas and on expanding its role in the energy balances.
