Goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon proved to be the hero as Italy beat England in the last quarter final of Euro 2012.

Buffon guessed right and saved Ashley Cole's effort before Alessandro Diamanti stepped up to slot home the winner. The Italians triumphed 4:2 on penalties. The result came after the two teams had played out an entertaining nil, nil draw.

Italy dominated possession for large parts and even had the ball in the back of the net five minutes from the end of extra-time, only to see it ruled out for off-side. The Italians were deserved winners in what proved to be an open game. They now move on to the semi-finals where they will face Germany, while favorites' Spain takes on Portugal.
