June 26th marks the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

Over a half million drug-related suspects captured between 2005 and 2011

More teenagers are drawn into the world of computer gaming and drugs

Tuesday marks the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Local police in the capital Kunming City have destroyed over 50 tons of chemicals used for drug manufacturing, the largest public destruction of drugs in the Province.

Yunnan is located at the southwest frontier of China and adjacent to the "Golden Triangle". Various drugs flow from neighboring countries into China. Yuxi is located in central Yunnan province, south of Kunming City. Police them destroy about 1 ton of drugs.

Most drug users in Yuxi are teenagers, some of them drawn from their studies, into the world of computer gaming and drugs. Some experts say, If there is no strengthened prevention education, more and more teenagers will become regular drug users.

Latest figures show Chinese police captured more than a half million suspects in cracking drug-related criminal cases between 2005 and 2011. They also seized more than 150 tonnes of illegal drugs in the seven years. China had a total of about 1.8 million registered drug addicts as of the end of 2011. Over 55 percent of them were aged 35 or under.
