Israeli President Shimon Peres has hosted his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, at an official state dinner at his residency in Jerusalem.

At the dinner, Peres urged Putin to step up pressure on Iran to curb its controversial nuclear program. Despite deep economic and cultural relations between two countries, the two leaders have taken different approaches to the Iranian and Syrian issues.

Russia has blocked drastic action against both countries, while Israel has repeatedly hinted its military intention of stopping Iran's nuclear program.

Upon Putin's arrival, a small demonstration of peace activists blasted the Russian President for failing to exert stronger pressure on the Syrian government to end the bloodshed.
