Russian President Vladimir Putin has held talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas after touring a Bethlehem church built on the supposed site of Jesus' birth.

The discussion focused on the deadlock engulfing the peace process between Israel and the Palestinians, which has been on hold for four years.

Russia is a member of Quartet of Mideast mediators, along with the US, the European Union and UN.

On Monday, Putin met Israeli President Shimon Peres and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, dedicating most of their discussions to the Iranian nuclear program.
