1 killed, 4 kidnapped by Somali militants

Somali militants ambushed an aid convoy on Friday, killing a Kenyan aid worker and kidnapping 4 international workers at a Kenyan refugee camp near the border with Somalia.

According to Kenyan police officials, the aid workers from the Norwegian Refugee Council were kidnapped after gunmen attacked a two-car convoy travelling through the refugee camp. The gunmen also killed a Kenyan driver for the aid group during the attack. Secretary-general of the Council, Elisabeth Rasmusson, was travelling in the aid convoy.

She said 4 people armed with pistols shot and took one car. Kenyan police said the four kidnapped were nationals of Norway, Canada, Pakistan, and the Philippines. No claim of responsibility was immediately made after Friday’s attack.
